When nine cars wrecked wildly on lap 16 during the 100-lap True Value Modified Racing Series event at Lee USA Speedway (NH) on Tuesday night, Bobby Grigas, III was pretty lucky to avoid it. Right in front of the young Massachusetts driver, cars went airborne and ended up stacked up like toys. Grigas avoided the mess and got through without incident.

His luck ran out a half lap later though. That is when Grigas made heavy contact with another car after a red flag came out for the big wreck.
“My car had been overheating all day and I just looked down at my gauges for a second while we were under caution,” said Grigas. “The red flag came out and when I looked up it was too late and I got into the back of the #48 car.”
There was heavy damage to the front of Grigas’ #09 Triple G Scaffold Modified. His team wasted no time getting to work and the car was able to make it back on track. Despite the major damage, Grigas was still able to run just as quick as the leaders. However, he was several laps down and ended up finishing 19th.
“We were running with the leaders and we had the car all messed up. The A-Frame was loose, I don’t even know what kind of spring that we had in it and the toe was all messed up. I just drove it.”
Grigas credits his crew with even making the #09 race-worthy, much less quick.
“They’re the best. I need to thank everyone for their hard work.”
Next up for Grigas is the Modified Madness open show at Seekonk Speedway (MA) on Wednesday, July 26th. The race is being held at Grigas’ home track and after winning last week’s Open Modified show at Canaan, Grigas is looking for some more success.
“I hope that my luck is a little bit better down there than at Lee,” said Grigas. “It’s a home track for me and this is going to be a big race. I’m looking for us to be in good shape to run up front.”
Modified Madness is set for Wednesday, July 26th. The racing action is set to begin at 7pm.
