Before the 2006 season started, the young Massachusetts driver was racing Late Models at tracks throughout New England.  This year, he moved up to the True Value Modified Racing Series and has been putting together an impressive string of top finishes.  His latest result, a third at Monadnock Speedway (NH), came on Tuesday morning when the series released their official results for the race.

Grigas actually crossed the finish line fourth at Monadnock, but apparent winner Jim Boniface was disqualified after a thorough inspection of his cylinder heads.

The podium finish adds to an already-impressive record during
Grigas’ rookie season.  He has won a TVMRS points race at Waterford, beat Ted Christopher to win a major open show at Canaan and rolled into Monadnock fresh from a fifth place finish in last Wednesday night’s prestigious Modified Madness show at Seekonk Speedway (MA).

“I would have liked to have won, but this track is where I have my worst possible luck at,” said Grigas.  “This is my best finish here yet.   It is almost like a win to me here at this track. Usually I am thirteenth or fifteenth and I burn the tires off the car. I was just psyched and every time a caution came out I was hoping to get at least a top-five finish.”
Grigas will be in even better shape the next time that he goes to Monadnock on August. 26th.

“I am just getting better and better every time I come here. So hopefully in the future, I will possibly win here. I thought that I had a great run and the team did an awesome job. I could not ask for a better night.”

For Grigas, part of learning Monadnock is finding out where his car works best on the track.

“I have been fighting the setup over and over here at Monadnock. For some reason the setup that we found works great in the second groove but the inside line it is tight.”
At one point, Grigas got caught out of that groove and slid back.  He didn’t get excited though, he just worked to come right back through the pack.

“Did I get mad or upset when they passed me? No, I knew what the car was doing. I was just excited that the car did not go all the way backwards. So when I only backed up to third or fourth I was actually psyched. It was like the other cars are no where to be seen.  I thought to myself that I could possibly have a top five here tonight.”

In the end, Grigas did even better than a top-five finish.  He’ll return to action Saturday night at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway (ME) in an effort to continue his success.
