Bobby Grigas sat behind the wheel of a modified car around 20 times during his rookie season in Modifieds, but that was enough for Grigas to complete his 2006 True Value Modified Racing Series 10th in the point standings. It also was enough for him to win the rookie of the year award.
“I am just so psyched!,” said Grigas. “The TVMRS had some good rookies. The True Value Series is an awesome tour and it is a real honor to be the rookie of the year.”
This was a great accomplishment for a driver who spent a few races on the sideline with a broken wrist sustained during racing practice at Canaan Fair Motorsports Complex in September.
“It was not as easy at I thought it was going to be. I actually thought that I was going to lose it when I broke my wrist. But then I was just so far in front that I kept the lead. “
Grigas made some history this year while participating in the TVMRS. He won his first race at Canaan Speedway in July.
“I was the first rookie ever in the series to win a race.”
Plans for next year for young Grigas aren’t firmed up yet, but they could involve a switch in tours.
“It may be the same at the end of next year if I win the NASCAR
Whelen Modified Tour Rookie of the Year Award. At least that is the plans so far. But you know how things and plans change. I could be back here or some where else.”
Summarizing his 2006 year, Bobby Grigas said: “I am just really excited to win the rookie of the year award because the TVMRS is a great series. I also want to make sure that I thank GMH Transportation for the rookie of the year of the award. ”
Grigas plans to head down to New Smyrna Speedway for Race Week festivities in February 2007. The team will bring a backup car this year in case the main car is damaged during the eight nights of bumper to bumper racing.
