BOBBY GRIGAS, III QUALIFIES FOR MOD TOUR DEBUT
#09 Will Start 17th at Thompson's World Series
Saturday was Bobby Grigas, III’s first experience when it came to entering a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event.  The day was a long, but successful one, as Grigas time trialed 17th to earn a spot on the starting grid for his Tour debut in the World Series at Thompson International Speedway (CT).
“It was awesome,” said Grigas.  “We struggled this whole day today from just signing up, the passes, and going through tech. The motor guy was not here to bubble the motor. The gate opened at 7:00 AM. Practice was at 9:30 AM and the motor guy did not get here until about 8:00 AM. The motor activity takes half-hour to forty-five minutes. So all in all I got about 30 laps in practice and then found out found out that one tire had a problem.  It was the right rear tire that was a brand new tire.  But it was an old cured tire that durometered harder then any other tire here. So as I was practicing today, I was not learning a single thing.

“In the scuff session we actually found out the problem. So I went out there in the scuff session and the car handled better but it
was too tight. So when we time trailed we kind of threw everything at it.  I was comfortable in the car and could have probably driven it better, but I am still just excited to make the race. Even if it was the last spot just to try it and just make the race. I was so nervous about making the show there are a lot of good cars here.”

Grigas drove at Thompson previously in a Late Model Car.  He won the Rookie of the Year award at the track in 2005.

“These cars are a lot different then a late model car,” said Grigas.  It is just not the same.

“I am just excited to make the show and hopefully I finish the race. My next goal is to finish the 150 laps. I have to keep it in one piece because I need to race Lee next weekend.  And this track usually eats up chassis.”

The World Series is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, October 15th.
