Driving Racecars a Natural Choice for Bobby Grigas III
24-Year-Old Got a Later Start, but Has Adapted Very Quickly
Bobby Grigas III has always been destined to drive racecars; he just didn’t know it right away.  Now with two seasons of racing under his belt, Grigas will step up to the True Value Modified Racing Series full-time in 2006, driving his family-owned #09 Triple G Scaffolding Modified.
It won’t be the first time that Triple G Scaffolding has appeared on the side of a Modified.  The family business also sponsored the #32 NASCAR Tour Modified of Dave Berghman several years ago.  That may have helped to plant the seed for Grigas’ involvement in the sport.

“My father sponsored a Modified and he likes racing a lot,” said Grigas.  “When my father sponsored the car, I was only 14 or 15.  I was rather young and looking back, I should have helped out more, but I didn’t know then that I’d be racing a Modified.”

But first, there were a few other experiences he had to get out of his system, but they too involved going fast.

“I’ve done a lot of recreational things.  I would go dirt biking and ride my motorcycle with my friends.  Quading, snowmobiling, you name it, I’ve tried it.”

Now, the 24-year-old driver is trying to make up for lost time behind the wheel of a racecar.

“I’m trying to get as far as I can in racing as fast as I can because I’m not getting any younger,” said Grigas.
“My father helps me so much because of his passion for the sport,” said Grigas.  “He and my Mom have been outstanding.  My father is a big fan of sitting on the couch and watching the Cup races on Sundays.  He loves racing and what’s better for him than to have his son behind the wheel of a car.  Now he can be in the action.”

When he was running a Late Model at Seekonk Speedway (MA), Grigas also had the help of his father’s former driver, Berghman, who is one of the best drivers in the business at getting around the tricky quarter-mile oval.

“He used to help me out when my Late Model wasn’t going so well,” said Grigas.  “He would give me tips on how to make it a little bit better.  He was a big help.”

In addition to racing at Seekonk, Grigas has also logged many Late Model laps at Thompson Speedway (CT) and Lee USA Speedway (NH) during the past two seasons.  That tri-state track experience has prepared him to go on tour with the TVMRS.

“I absolutely think that helps prepare me for the True Value Modified Racing Series,” said Grigas.  “The tracks that I have run are tracks where the True Value Modifieds compete at.  I’ve learned how to prepare myself to go to different tracks.  Now I’m learning how the cars react differently to each track.”

Bobby Grigas will compete in the True Value Modified Racing Series full-time in 2006.  For more information on Grigas, please contact Mike Twist at (207) 590-1786 and be sure to look out for the all-new Bobby Grigas, III website coming soon.
