For Bobby Grigas, III , just getting through the Fall Final at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) was a good enough accomplishment. While it is true that the young driver would have liked to post a top 10 finish, he was also very satisfied to just stay out of trouble and finish the race in the 13th position.
“We finished with the car in one piece,” said Grigas. “That is all that counts. I would have liked a top ten because the crew has done a really good job. I am thankful for everything.
After the event, he looked back and wished that he had made the call to change three tires, instead of the pair that he had swapped out midway through the race.
“I would have taken two tires instead of three. We just had a bad pit stop so it kind of put us back there,” said Grigas. “A lot of the cars were very hard to pass. Nobody was really going any where.”
That could have created a situation ripe for trouble, but Grigas kept cool and that was even noticed by at least one veteran.
“Rick [Fuller] held me up on the track but I did not rough him up. He came over and thanked me for not roughing him up because he was out of control. A little nudge and he would have been spinning around in circles.”
With one race left in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour season, Grigas is still shooting for the 2007 Rookie of the Year title.
“The car was not as good as it was here the last time we were here but you know what though I am still digging away at the rookie points. I spoke to NASCAR officials and I am still in the running. I am four points behind the leader. Who knows?”
The final race of the season for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will be the World Series at Thompson Speedway on October 14th.
