GRIGAS CAUGHT UP IN WRECK AT THOMPSON
With Nowhere to Go, Rookie Driver Settles for 32nd
Like all racecar drivers, young Bobby Grigas III has seen plenty of good luck in his impressive racing career to date. He's won races with a healthy balance of hard work, skill behind the wheel, plus that luck that comes in handy on the racetrack.
But on the flipside, Bobby is no different than any other racecar driver in the sense that sometimes, bad luck is just unavoidable.
With a strong qualifying effort in his second NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Thompson International Speedway (CT) this year, Bobby and the Triple G Scaffold #09 team were hoping that there would be no bad luck to be found.
Everything seemed to be going according to plan for Bobby early in the race, but on lap 67, that bad luck reared its ugly head in the form of a multiple-car accident just ahead of him. The track was completely blocked, leaving the young driver nowhere to go. The #09 machine suffered damage, but the crew were able to make the necessary repairs on pit road and Bobby resumed the race, eventually coming home in the 32nd position.
Because he has seen both the good and the bad sides of the luck game in his career, Bobby understands that this kind of day can happen, even when things look to be going smoothly early on.
"Stuff like that happens, what can you do?" said Grigas. "I wish that we could have finished better. I had a decent car. It worked pretty good. We would have had a good finish if we stayed out of trouble, and usually I stay out of trouble. This was just a freak thing.”
Grigas and the team will prepare the #09 for its next voyage to hopefully get back on the good luck side when the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to action on June 30th at New Hampshire International Speedway.
