The results keep getting better each race for Bobby Grigas, III on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.  Fresh off a top-10 finish at New Hampshire International Speedway, Grigas headed to Thompson International Speedway, where he raced a Late Model regularly early in his career, to finish a career best sixth on Sunday afternoon.
The solid finish helped Grigas make up some ground in the battle for the Modified Tour Rookie of the Year award.

“I came here trying to get closer to the Rookie of the Year Championship,” said Grigas.  . “Before today we were far behind. Then other rookies had bad runs at Loudon, so we came here for a top-seven car. We could actually do something today so I wanted a top-seven car. I was in the top five and then I had a little mishap at the end. But I saved it and we finished the race in sixth and the wheels are on the car. I could not ask for more”

A something different under the hood helped Grigas perform so well at the ultra-fast Thompson oval.

“This is my Loudon car and I have figured out that I have been struggling with the motor issue, the whole motor deal. I really have only one real good one and I had been saving it for Loudon. Now that Loudon races are over I figured that I would take it out here. The car handling was
phenomenal, it was right on the bottom of the track. It was an awesome race. I could not ask for more.

“The motor program was a little down but there is always next season to straighten everything out. If I can have another two runs like I had here and the other rookies are still struggling, I could snag it (Rookie of the Year Championship for WMT).”

Grigas is now looking ahead to next weekend’s Modified Tour event at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT).

“I will be driving this car at Stafford next week. I have another car and then a fresh motor that I am going to put in for the World Series.  Then I will send this one down to have it freshened up for the North South Shootout.”
