Grigas' Bad Luck Continues in Final Race of Season
#09 Mod Was Quick at Turkey Derby, But Got Eliminated Early On
Bobby Grigas, III hoped that his bad luck had run out before his final race of his season, the recent Turkey Derby at Wall Township Speedway (NJ). Then he had mechanical problems with his #09 Modified before qualifying and he hoped that was it for bad luck in 2007. But unfortunately his bad luck, and his season, did not actually end until lap 22, when he was eliminated from the race in a wreck. Grigas was credited with a 23rd-place finish.
“I guess that’s why they call it a Derby,” said Grigas. “It was a lot of fun, but it was a rough race. We broke a crank trigger right before qualifying and missed time trials. That put me last in the consi. I worked my way up to a transfer spot and got into the race, but I had to start at the rear of the field. I had a fast car and was following [eventual second place finisher] Jimmy Blewett right up through the field.”
But then bad luck reared it ugly head again.
“I figured that my bad luck just might have been over, but things didn’t go as planned. I just missed a bunch of wrecks or barely got into them. Then I got into one that ended the day. I was trying to keep my front end straight and avoid hitting anything too hard when someone hit me in the rear, pushing me into the mess. That ripped off the right front and it was over.”
Grigas will now prepare for the 2008 racing season.
