Bobby Grigas is only four races into his NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour career and already, the young rookie shows a great amount of promise.  He headed into this weekend’s event at Wall Township Speedway sitting within the top 10 of the Tour point standings – largely because he’s been using his head to stay out of trouble on the track.

But using your head can only go so far.  Being cautious can’t control the competitors around you, as Grigas found out in Sunday’s race at Wall.

“For the second time, Anthony Sesley turned right on me,” said Grigas.  “And that time he just drove me straight into the wall. I had nowhere to go. There was no need for that. I am new to the series and I am trying to prevent [NASCAR officials] Ed Cox and Bill Brice from thinking that I am a hazard. Then I go out there and I am trying not to hit anybody and I am trying to ride the outside so I can get back to the front.

“The 00 [Jerry Marquis] spun me in the beginning of the race for no reason. The guys have no reason for it at all. I am trying to clean up my driving style, to gain respect from the drivers and the NASCAR officials. I had a super fast race car and it wanted the outside groove. And that was where it was going.  It just didn’t work out for us today.”

Grigas was credited with a 29th-place finish and dropped to the 14th position in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour points.

Grigas will return to action on May 25th when the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to Stafford Motor Speedway, using a traditional 150-lap race format.
