Bad Luck Bites Grigas In Double Header Weekend
Blown Engine Ruins Grigas' Chances at Riverhead
Bobby Grigas saw a weekend of potential go untapped this weekend as he suffered from bad luck in two separate races.

On Thursday night at Thompson International Speedway, he was in a great position during the early laps of the Sunoco Modified race, but then found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time as the race grew older.

“We had a pretty good car at Thompson,” said Grigas.  “We’ve been digging away on it and got it to go very well on Thursday.  I was running second to Keith Ruocco and we were pulling away from the field.  We had a straightaway on third place and were starting to lap cars around lap 15.  That is when a lapped car spun out and caused a big wreck.  Keith ran right into the side of one of the cars and I aimed down low.  I was about by the wreck and thought to myself that I’d be in a good position to go on to a win when one of the cars released his brakes and came down the track.  I ran right into the side of him.”

Grigas was credited with a finish of 18th.

On Saturday night, Grigas headed to the tight confines of Riverhead Raceway (NY) for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race there.,  He qualified in the 18th position and made forward progress until encountering a mechanical problem.

“The car was pretty decent.  We started 18th and got into the top 10.  I think we had a top five car, but the engine blew halfway through the race.”

Grigas was credited with a 26th-place finish.

Now, Grigas is hoping to change his run of bad luck this Friday night as the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour heads to Stafford Motor Speedway – the place where Grigas put on a very strong performance earlier this year by leading 54 laps of an earlier WMT race.

“The last time that we went to Stafford, we had a great run going.  We had a huge lead until having some problems in the pits.  So this time, I’m hoping to turn things around there.  I hoping to finish the race in the top five and build on things from there.”

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race at Stafford is scheduled for Friday night, August 8th.
