After working night and day for a solid two weeks on the #09 Modified Cars to prepare for the North South Shootout at Concord Speedway (NC), things just didn't go as Bobby Grigas had hoped for. After the race, Bobby wrote this account to share with his friends and fans:
We had a really fast car and I was hoping to end the 09 season on a high note, but that didn't happen. I am extremely disappointed with the outcome. I qualified 12th, then started third in the second heat race and finished second which gave me a 10th place starting position for the Feature Modified Race.
A caution flew on Lap 4 and collected a lot of the front runners. I thought I was all set but unfortunately, I cannot control what happens behind me. I was stopped and thought I was safe but somebody that was behind me hit my right rear tire. I pulled into the pits with not even a scratch on my car, and my expert crew pulled off both rear tires to assess the damage and found that the rear end was broken. My crew was optimistic in fixing the problem and I went back out on the track only to find out the damage was far worse than we anticipated and that ended our night.
It's so disappointing after the amount of time we had spent to make sure the car was 100%, and to have had the best team anybody could have asked for. I feel terrible that I was unable to have a real good finish for my team, as I know that is what they were looking forward to.
I would like to extend my utmost Gratitude to My Parents for supporting me throughout the Season. Words cannot express the many Thanks to J.R., Jimbo, Scotty, Jay Lo, John S., Brad S., Snax, Kevin, Greg, Debbie, Ben, John P., Brad Lafontaine, Glenn Dixon, & Speed 51 for helping me this season. All of you were a huge help to me and I truly appreciate everything you all did. I cannot thank you enough!!
I would also like to Thank my Sponsors that were on Board with us as well - Tiny & Sons Glass, Twisted Tea, but most importantly Triple G. Scaffold & all its employees. Many of you that helped me week after week in the shop and not once did it go unnoticed. A huge thank you also goes to all the fans - you are what makes racing what it is today. I wish you all health and happiness in the off-season.
Thanks,
Bobby
