Grigas is ready to Race the Double at the North-South Shootout
Massachusetts Racer Assembles “Dream Team” in Hopes for Dual Victories
After spending the last month on the sidelines from the Modified world, Bobby Grigas III is ready to strap into his #09 Town and Country Ford Modified with a “dream team” to race in the North-South Shootout at Concord Speedway (NC) on November 7th, in both the Tour-Type Modified and SK Modified features.
While other teams have been scrambling in the final Tour Modified events, Grigas has been assembling a top-notch team as well as preparing his cars for the trip down to North Carolina to race in one of the most prestigious Modified shows of the year. That includes a big name in the Modified realm helping to crew chief his team.
“I’m definitely psyched about going,” said Grigas. “I’ve got Brad LaFontaine coming down to help me at the North-South Shootout. He is Ted Christopher’s crew chief on the Tour. I definitely should have a dream team. I’m almost like the Yankee’s; I stacked up my team to go down to the big race, so hopefully I’ll do well. I have all the right people and all the right stuff to go down there and win.”
It has been a few years since Grigas has made his way down south from Massachusetts to race in the North-South Shootout. With help from a top-notch crew, he is ready to blaze a trail to victory lane in both the Tour and SK events.
“I went down there in 2006 and 2007,” explained Grigas. “Both years I can’t really call it dumb luck, but that’s kind of how it was. I had really fast cars, but the first time I went down there I time-trialed third and when the race started, I had a freak thing happen when the fuel cell started to leak, so I got the black flag and that was kind of the end there. Then in 2007 we had a really fast car, but we had a bad time-trial run. I started in the back of the field, and you know as a driver what starting in the back of the field will get you.
“Brad has been consulting me. I’ve had super-fast cars, so now with him at the reigns to coach me over the radio it should give me a winning car. I’ve got two winning setups, and I’ve got one of the best guys in the game helping me out, so hopefully we can get two good races out of it.”
Even though Grigas hasn’t raced a Modified over the past month, he has kept busy in other racing vehicles as well as in the shop to prepare for the North-South Shootout.
“I have been doing the indoor racing thing, and I’ve been doing some dirt bike riding and quad riding to keep the edge I need. Besides, the time off from the Modified really gave me time to strip down the cars and really go through them all and get them straightened out from the first part of the year, when we weren’t doing all that well. I have a mindset where I’m going to have all my T’s crossed and all of my I’s dotted, and it gave me time to try to really get everything prepped for this big race.
“The North-South Shootout is a big race. It’s one of those race neat races to win. The time off gave me the time to make my car the best that I could possibly make it, to recruit the people that I needed to, and to put a winning car under me. Town and Country Ford has also joined our efforts for the North-South Shootout, and we look forward to thanking them by putting both the Tour and SK cars in victory lane.”
The North-South Shootout will take place at Concord Speedway (NC) on November 5th – 7th.
